1-Hour Wash Day for Busy Queens

Wash day doesn’t have to take all day Sis! Between work, kids and life, spending half of the day doing my hair isn’t always realistic. Don’t get me wrong. I definitely prioritize my hair, and I love doing deep conditioning and steam treatments. But sometimes I don’t have the time and my hair needs to be washed and styled.

On weeks where I wear a wash and go, I do my hair once with the hopes that it will last me for at least 5 days. I normally can pull that off with no issues. And you can too, here is how I do it.

Get a game plan: A good shampoo and conditioner is a must. I don’t generally believe in hair typing, but for this, I will say that I am a 4A. My hair is thick, dense, color-treated (Black), and of medium-porosity. When I wear a wash and go this is the shampoo and conditioner that I use. The shampoo gives my hair a good cleanse without leaving it feeling stripped. The conditioner makes it soft almost instantly. These big bottles last a long time so you get more bang for your buck.

  • You Will Receive one 29.2 fluid Ounce bottle of shampoo and one 29.2 fluid Ounce bottle of conditioner
  • MOISTURIZING SHAMPOO: Gives your hair a deep clean with rich hydration
  • MOISTURIZING CONDITIONER: Gives you moisturizing conditioning for total hydration

I always wash my hair twice. It is vital to remove all buildup from your hair and scalp. I let my conditioner sit in for about 10 minutes while I shower. Make sure to rinse the conditioner off of your scalp and out of your hair thoroughly. I always take 2 good pumps of conditioner and run it from midway through my strands to the ends, I use it as my leave-in. Once I get out, I give my hair a light spray with the CHI Keratin Mist. It is a light protein leave-in that gives my hair a little added strength.

I have a dry-scalp so I have to oil my scalp weekly. I use a 50/50 blend of organic jojoba oil and organic castor oil. Just a bit on your fingertips and massage your scalp with it. It leaves my scalp hydrated and appreciative.

I use Lottabody mousse for my styler. I have been using this OG products for decades and it has never let me down. My gel of choice is Wetline Extreme. On first and second day hair, I like a bit of a gel cast. It softens as the days gone on. I don’t like my hair in my face so I part my hair from ear to ear and give myself a side part on the left side of my head. I give myself a 2-strand twist down each side. The back of my head, I split into 2 sections. I split each of those 2 sections into 4 sections. I use a couple of pumps of Lottabody and use my Tangle Teezer brush to brush the mousse through it. Lottabody does an excellent job of helping detangle your hair as well as provide shine and hold. After that I follow up with gel and rake it through my hair and move to the next section. You want your hair to be damp, so if it starts to dry, have a water bottle on hand to re-moisten it. I do that for each section. Then I let it air dry for awhile while doing house chores and I finish up with diffusing the rest of it.

Freshly washed and conditioned.
Shrinkage is real lol!
